Devils Lake is 122,000 acres, 90 percent undeveloped, and one of the finest multi-species fisheries in the Midwest. Long an ice fishing Mecca, Devils Lake is the only lake in North Dakota with an extensive trail system providing access to many areas of the lake throughout the winter months. Administered by the Winter Lake Access Committee, made up of volunteers from the Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce, the trail system is maintained based on current ice conditions, fishing activity and, of course, weather conditions. Unlike similar trail systems in other communities that charge a per-day fee, these trails are free to its users.
